At 3pm tomorrow you could drink your afternoon pick-me-up coffee at your local cafe OR you could head to the ABC Cafe on Harris Street to interrogate a medley of research scientists.
Your choice.
Drink one with a "geek" tomorrow and learn about their world of research
A robot designer, an indoor air pollution expert, a games researcher, and a professor of Integrative Physiology – among others – will be there to answer your questions. It’s called ‘Speed meet and greet a geek’ and, to get you started, we’ve begun the interrogation of two “geeks” here.
So read up and think of a question to really stump them!

OMG. I just had an Octopus on my head. Otherwise known as: the Emotiv Headset. With the helmet moistened to read my brain-waves more easily, it really felt like an octopus was being peeled off my skull when the Emotiv Headset was removed.
The Emotiv Headset will become an addition to video games: where users can think certain commands to supplement games. And, trust me, it’s a lot harder than it sounds! Thinking a command isn’t just ‘do this’: it’s focusing mentally on doing the activity.

But, by nature, I’m more creative: I love to draw, write and just get messy with things like cardboard, glue and glitter. The combination of these two urges is why I’m personally so excited about the Live Futures Festival happening on August 15th. It appeals to the outright geek and the creative hands-on person in me.
The Live Futures Festival looks at the future: science, technology, environment, design – and zeroes in on the most innovative and creative ways we should be thinking now, to get ready for the future. So, what aspects am I really excited about Live Futures? Continue Reading »
