Sydney Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef exhibition
The higher order mathematics of hyperbolic space was once considered impossible to represent – until it was discovered that coral reefs were already doing the job. This large crocheted installation brings together science, art, philosophy and environment. Now, with no experience necessary, you can learn how to crochet a piece of ‘reef’ and have it added to the installation. Learn something new and become part of the exhibition.
A woolly celebration of higher geometry and feminine handicraft and a testimony to the disappearing wonders of the marine world. It was originally created by respected science writer Margaret Wertheim and Christine Wertheim of the Institute For Figuring in LA. See hyperbolic space represented in handmade stitches.
