Lab at the Lagoon
When: Sunday 23rd August 11am – 4pm
Info: As part of the Lagoon Life Festival, the Manly Environment Centre is running a laboratory on the edge of Manly Lagoon. It will provide lots of information and the opportunity of hands-on experience in various methods of monitoring the health of our unique local environment and how to protect it. Science-based activities scheduled throughout the day are of particular interest to students and all members of the community. These include:
* Water quality testing and macroinvertebrate identification – a fun way of assessing the health of the lagoon using instruments and biological indicators
* Environmental audit – conduct a visual assessment of the lagoon using all your senses
* Flora and fauna identification – includes a guided bird watching tour and a live frog display
* Scientific talks including Andrew Lo, local authority on the Climbing Galaxias, a unique fish with Gondwanian origins found in the lagoon catchment
* SAM trailer – an interactive demonstration of the impact of stormwater pollution
* Lots of additional interactive activities for the kids
The Lab at the Lagoon will run 3 sessions of macroinvertebrate identification and water quality testing:
11:00 am – 12:30 pm
12:45pm – 2:15 pm
2:30 pm – 4 pm
