Chemistry in the racing industry
When: August 26th 2009. Refreshments served from 6pm. Seminar begins at 6.30pm
Info: The ability to control the use of performance affecting substances in animals is critical to the integrity of horse and greyhound racing, with major implications for both animal welfare and revenue streams. Australia’s first racing laboratory was established in 1947 by the Australian Jockey Club, and since that time Australian racing has been subject to the most stringent forensic testing allowed by the technology of the day. This presentation will review the history of the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory, located at Randwick Racecourse, and provide a general outline of the methodologies used in modern animal sports drug testing.
Additional Information: There will be a free tour of the Racing laboratory prior to the seminar commencing at 5pm. This will be limited to 20 people. The first 10 members from each organisation (RACI and the ANZFSS) to apply for the tour will be given priority. To attend the tour please contact Edwina at racinsw@chem.unsw.edu.au
Presented by: Dr Andrew McKinney (Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory)
Cost: ANZFSS and RACI Members Free! Non-members $5
Where: Seminar will take place at the UNSW School of Chemistry Seminar room (Ground floor of the Dalton Building)
