Who cares about science? We do! That’s why a diverse group of people have come together to create 10 days of science, a blog based on National Science Week events in New South Wales and the ACT.
Introduction to 10 days of science
The team
Kate Hennessy is a freelance writer and editor based in Sydney. A fan of beach cricket, the music of Black Cab and TV series Deadwood, she’s written about music, sustainability, technology and business for various publications and is a closet lover of things scientific. Kate is the editor of this site.
David Finnigan is a writer, theatre-maker and pharmacy assistant. As a member of science-theatre collective Boho Interactive, David has toured to festivals, schools and science conferences around Australia, and has worked with festivals and companies in New York and Manila. David is assistant editor of 10 days of science.
Xavier Rizos is innovation manager at National Australia Bank by day, and a volunteer to the NSW Science Week committee by night. A fan of physicist Richard Feynman, he loves reading The Economist and The Monthly, playing with his daughter EJ and discussing politics, science and philosophy with his antepodéan friends. Xavier is on the NSW Science Week committee.
Wilson da Silva is the editor-in-chief of COSMOS magazine. He has a long history as a science journalist and editor, including Quantum on ABC TV, Newton and New Scientist magazines, ABC Online and Reuters. A closet Star Trek fan, he has an unhealthy obsession with all things space, and is scheduled to be among the first 100 citizen astronauts on Virgin Galactic’s spaceliner service in 2010.
Dr Sophie Lieberman is the Coordinator of Science Communication at the Australian Museum. She is passionate about the vital relationship between science literacy and good citizenship. Much of her time is spent in regional NSW delivering science communication projects. Sophie likes being a fish out of water, and good Chinese food. Sophie is on the NSW National Science Week Committee.
Kylie Ahern is the publisher and co-founder of COSMOS magazine. She started her career at IPC Magazines in Britain, and went on to several senior publishing roles in Australia, including the FPC and ACP magazine houses. Kylie is the chair of the NSW Science Week Committee.
